The project of the Bashtansky cheese plant up-to-date wastewater treatment facilities building reached the final of the International contest Green Awards 2011

The project of the Bashtansky cheese plant up-to-date wastewater treatment facilities building and biogas production, presented in the category «The best project in the field of water supply and wastewater treatment» of the International contest Green Awards 2011, took the 3rd place.
Bashtansky cheese plant up-to-date wastewater treatment facilities building and biogas production — is a new and unique project realized at Bashtansky cheese plant. Dairy plants’ wastewater does not meet sewage requirements. It is strong and highly concentrated and cause irreparable damage to nature and water. The project was developed, patented and implemented by the Ukrainian technological company (UTC) during 2010–2011 years. The term of the project’s recoupment is 2–5 years.
The efficiency level of Bashtansky cheese plant wastewater treatment facilities surpassed necessary legislative requirements. Firstly, maximum biogas output of the wastewater treatment facilities is 300 m3 per hour, which is equal to 200 m3 per hour of natural gas. Bashtansky cheese plant gets 4 800 m3 of biogas per day, which is similar to total amount of biogas that the plant buys. Secondly, there are 5 people working on the wastewater treatment facilities of Bashtansky cheese plant altogether: 4 operators and a supervisor. Thirdly, Bashtansky cheese plant wastewater treatment facilities are unique and the only ones amount all dairy plants of Ukraine.
A public defense of projects that have successfully overcome the first stage of the selection competition — Green Trends — took place in the Kyiv Golf Centre. 44 projects received the ability to compete for the title of best project at the final stage of the competition and personally present their achievements. Defense of the projects was held in the format of an interactive conference where in a short time the participants had «to infect» an international Jury of Green Awards Ukraine with their enthusiasm» and persuade the judges that their project is the best to maximize current score.
Green Awards Ukraine is the contest where the jury is presented by the leading experts in the field of environmental technologies and practices of the European level, public opinion leaders and representatives of influential international organizations and institutions. The judges evaluate the projects in two phases and select the best one by interactive voting and according to the results of public defense of the projects.
The purpose of Green Awards Ukraine is to identify the best business and social «green» projects in Ukraine. The contest evaluates exactly the projects, not the companies or individuals. The nominees are determined by search and invitation by the organizers as well as by self-presentation of the project for participation.
